Cast your mind back to the Italia 鈥90 World Cup. Managed by Sir Bobby Robson, the England Men鈥檚 team boasted players such as Gary Lineker, Peter Shilton, and John Barnes. What you may not know is that Loughborough alum John Brewer 鈥 a forward-thinking and passionate sports scientist 鈥 was also part of that set up. John was a pioneer, bringing sports science to professional football with thanks to the modern thinking of Robson. It鈥檚 now more than 30 years since that special moment for John, so we caught up to reminisce and find out more about his experience ahead of the next major tournament.

Nick Propper (European Business BA, 1996) has co-authored the book 鈥淪tressed Self to Best Self: The Science Backed System for Sustainable Peak Performance鈥 with Kevin Kachin. The book is set to release in October 2026.

Loughborough-founded start-up Tzuka launches flagship sports earbuds
Tzuka, a consumer electronics start-up developing what it describes as category-defining earbuds for functional fitness athletes, officially launched its flagship product on 2 May 2026. The company was founded by 柠檬视频 alum Tom Jelliffe (Geography and Business Management BSc, 2018) and has been based in LUinc. (the University鈥檚 incubator hub) for the past six years.
