Frequently asked questions
Can I store my bike?
Yes. All students living in halls have access to secure on-site bike storage. We recommend using a good-quality bike lock, and bicycles should be stored in the designated bike storage areas rather than inside residential buildings. The only exception is for members of the Cycling Club, who may bring their bike into their accommodation provided it is stored in a cycle bag. For further information, please see our dedicated bike storage page.
Can I choose which hall I live in?
This depends on your offer type. We recommend following the accommodation application process outlined on our How to Apply page, where you'll find information about selecting your hall preferences and how allocations are made.
Am I guaranteed a place in halls?
Undergraduate students who choose Loughborough as their firm choice and register by the published deadline are guaranteed a place in halls. For other offer types, eligibility may vary, so we recommend checking the How to Apply page for full details.
When will I find out which hall I've been allocated?
If you apply through our Book Now live booking system, you’ll find out your hall straight away. If you apply through a preference-based route (such as Art and Design Foundation, Insurance or Clearing), it may take a couple of weeks for us to process allocations. For more information, please see our How to Apply page.
Can I change halls after I've moved in?
The hall you book is the one you will be living in for the duration of your contract. If you are very unhappy, you can submit a transfer request, however this normally only opens around four weeks after the move-in date. For more information, please see our Transfers and Cancellations page.
How safe are the halls of residence?
Our halls are very safe, with 24/7 security on campus, secure key access for individual rooms, and card access required for blocks and main entrances. In our annual customer satisfaction survey for 2025, 96% of students said they felt safe and secure in their accommodation.
What are shared bathrooms really like?
Shared bathrooms are clean, convenient, and a great way to meet people. They’re cleaned regularly by our housekeeping team, with toilet roll and soap topped up, and are often easier to use than expected as students tend to have different schedules so queuing is rarely an issue. For more information, see our shared bathroom page.
